Kaclang is a spell which renders the recipient invulnerable, but also unable to act.

It was introduced in Dragon Quest III at first exclusive to the Hero class. Affects the whole party. Some monsters also have the Kaclang spell.

Seemingly useless at first glance, the spell is actually quite handy to trick an enemy into wasting all their MP, as well as scouting for their abilities.

In VI DS, Kaclang is learned by the recruitable liquid metal slime Mercury at level 3, when a Luminary reaches rank 2, when a Hero reaches rank 1, and upon reaching rank 2 of the Liquid Metal Slime vocation.

It can be used by Arrghgoyles.

It can be cast by rotten eggs as enemies.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive AgeEdit

The Luminary will learn Kaclang after purchasing the spell for 12 points in the Luminary section of his character builder. The spell costs 8 MP to cast but now only targets a single ally, with the effect lasting for 2~4 turns.

Called Ironize in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 15 with 62 MP and 58 Intelligence. It is naturally learned by the darkcrab, evilbeast, eyeball, metalking, tortragon and whipbird.

Ironize now requires 87 Intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by the wonderegg. It is no longer naturally learned by the eyeball

Dragon Quest TactEdit

Kaclang can be learned by Hero, Erdrick through his Character Builder and costs 107 MP to cast. It has a range of up to two squares away from him and can also be self-cast. It fully protects the target from any damage they may receive until the start of their next turn. Although it can only be cast one time per battle. Upgrading the spell reduces the amount of MP it costs to cast.
