The Wharfhorse is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest VII. Its name is a pun on the term "war horse" and the nautical term wharf.
Characteristics
Wharfhorses are big seahorse-like monsters with blue scaly skin and a pair of arms. They have green fins on the sides of their heads and a larger pair of fins on its back which have pale yellow webbing. The undersides of their bodies are also pale yellow. These monsters are seen wearing a Roman-looking armor, which consists of a bronze cuirass with pauldrons attached, pink faulds, and a belt around their waists. Wharfhorses wield a purple shield with a gold design in the center and a silver trident with a purple handgrip. In battle, they are capable of supporting their allies with defensive magic and exhale various breath attacks against their enemies.

A boss version of Wharfhorse is fought alongside Mossferatu and a Quayhorse in the Den of the Dwarves. Players should take out the two guards before attacking Mossferatu himself since they can heal and revive him. Insulatle is recommended to protect the party against its breath attacks. Tingle is also necessary to cure any party member who falls victim to its paralyzing breath.
