Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

Pierre is a stone golem enslaved by the wicked Petrarch to mine for the penteractic crystals scattered throughout the Lower & Middle Echelons of the Circle of Caprice. He is the sole golem to maintain sentience, speaking in a crude syntax and distinguishing himself with an ornate necklace. He shelters Psaro and Rose from the unrelenting sandstorm of the Middle Echelon in his meager home, and upon learning of Psaro's capability as a Monster Wrangler he explains the perpetual torment his kind suffer under Petrarch. He pleads for the silver-haired youth to save his kind, and guides the duo to Petrarch's lair in the House of the Shifting Sands.

When Petrarch is killed and pair return to tell Pierre the good news, they notice that the Middle Echelon is littered with new rubble. Upon seeing a clump of stone with his necklace, Rose deduces that the curse was all that was keeping the stone golems alive and with Petrarch gone they could not sustain themselves.

Much later, during the confrontation with Aamon, it is revealed that the stone golems were in fact the elves of the ancient kingdom of El Zetta that the demon destroyed long ago. Aamon had cursed the elves to take the form of stone golems to mine the peteractic crystals. The souls of the wayward elves are gathered by their Queen, who was able to break through her own curse once Aamon was severely weakened in his clash with Psaro, and depart with her into the unknown.
