The Whispwoods is a haunted forest found far away from the rest of Terrestria. It is a somber, quiet forest filled with gray-golden fog, the eponymous whisps, and the most powerful wild monsters the game has to offer.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]
The player is made aware of the woods during the post-game, when Ludo suddenly appears in Rosehill Tower to speak to Psaro. He warns his brother that the final member of the Unholy Trinity has begun to stir from it's slumber, Venjurah. The beast is too dangerous to be left to it's own devices and Ludo hands over a piece of rainbow-coloured travelite for his older brother, Rose, and Toilen to follow him.
Indeed, the soul of the manufactured monster returns to it's petrified corpse moments after the party arrive and the fight commences. Venjurah is soundly defeated, but Ludo halts Psaro from delivering the final blow; Venjurah's soul exits it's body and it flees deeper into the forest towards the seal placed on it's figurative mother Azabel. Explaining that he would very much like to meet Azabel, Ludo has the party follow the wandering spirit to the great tree at the center of the woods. There, he dispels the seal binding Azabel to vanquish the madwoman, but before the brothers can begin they are suddenly interrupted by Wyrmsworth the Wormhole Dragon who is hellbent on stopping Ludo and begins the next boss fight. With no further interruptions once Wyrmsworth is dispatched, the souls of Dumajurah and Izmajurah join Venjurah as their mother awakens. Seeing her children reduced to such a state empowers Azabel and she resumes her plan of mortal genocide―starting with Psaro.
Ludo finishes off Azabel, remarking that had they met under different circumstances then they would have been friends. Her death totally nullifies the lingering seal energies that materialize in the form of an elf woman, Ludo's mother Elshael. Parent and child reunite by stating it is time for their plan for their utopia to resume its course and Elshael materializes a rune-covered door that leads to a dimension filled with naught but the void of space. Rose confronts Ludo and demands he explain what is happening, to which he states that he and Rose are descendants of the El Zettian elves. Continuing, he tells group that the El Zettians once had a priestess with the incredible power to create entire worlds and that her duty was to become the living seal that would eternally bind Azabel. With the heretical Zenithian now dead, he has freed his mother from her burden.
When Rose presses Ludo about the utopia his mother mentioned, the half-elf reveals his nihilism in full by announcing his plan is to destroy the entire world and create a new one in the dimension along with his mother. He extends an offer to the party but is rebuked, beginning the game's final battle.
Treasures[edit]
- Four Seasons Flute, hidden away in the back of the forest. This handy pipe allows Psaro to change the seasons at will.
