"The Goddess won't need to punish her, because I'm going to see to it that she pays for what she's done right now!"
—Harry (DS, Cell phone)
The Faux Dowager is a villain in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. She takes on the appearance of King Wilbur's mother the Queen Dowager, but her true form is a Hulagan-like monster.
Story[edit]
A pretender to the throne, the Faux Dowager is part of a conspiracy to militarize Coburg and turn it into an instrument of oppression for the Order of Zugzwang. After the real Queen Dowager executes her plot to have Prince Harry kidnapped and sold into slavery, she is thrown in the dungeon and replaced by this monster that took on her guise. With the real Dowager's son Wilbur on the throne, the Faux Dowager is able to manipulate him, and through him the whole kingdom of Coburg. Among other atrocities, she is responsible for the razing of Whealbrook during the gap between the first and second generations of the game.
The Faux Dowager is finally overthrown when her true form as a monster is revealed with Ra's Mirror and the Hero and Harry are able to defeat her in battle.
