King Withers is the elderly monarch of Witherwood, who plays a central role in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. A more decrepit-looking King of the same land previously appeared in the original Dragon Quest Monsters and its remake; it is unknown whether these two are the same individual.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]
The King of DeadTree visits GreatTree's throne room after Terry returns from defeating a certain Hacksaurus. He expresses some envy of GreatTree's vitality, but remarks that a certain beauty only emerges when a kingdom has withered.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]
The King of DeadTree's role is expanded in the remake's new postgame. Together with the King of GreatLog, he joins Terry, Milly and the King of GreatTree on their mission to the land of Juhyo and demonstrates his Monster Wrangler skills.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World[edit]
King Withers directs Bianca and Nera to seek the Leaves of Life in The Spelunk, the last place in his kingdom that the fabled cure-all is believed to exist, and grants them use of the Waterwing Can. When the girls are forced to return empty-handed and recount their meeting with the sinister Thespidor, His Majesty dispatches the pair on a quest to destroy the meteocite crystals and restore life to Witherwood.
The subject matter of King Withers' audiences with the girls tends to be quite serious, but he makes sure to always lighten the mood by finishing with a joke. Though some of his subjects appreciate his awful puns, among the protagonists' party only Fizzy is able to stomach them.
