Iron tortoise

From Dragon Quest Wiki
(Redirected from Land Armor)

The Iron tortoise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VI. It is a tortoise monster whose body is well-protected by a spiked armour shell.

Characteristics[edit]

Iron tortoises are big tortoise-like monsters with orange and brown scaly skin, their shells and heads heavily protected by armoured pieces. The main part of its armour is the brown and purple tortoise shell which has holes where sharp metallic spikes can extrude to harm the enemies that dare touching the shell. On their heads, the tortoises appear to be wearing a helmet in the same brown and dull purple colour scheme. Their undersides are also coloured a dull purple and they have armoured plates on their knees. The monsters' armour offers them a high degree of protection against the elements and various negative status ailments. However, their heavily protected bodies have a drawback as they are vulnerable to Metal Slash. In the Monsters series of games, they are made part of the Dragon family, like many other reptilian monsters.

Despite their near-identical appearance to the Ironclad wartoise, the two are considered separate monsters. Notably, in one of the cards for the Dragon Quest Card Game, the iron tortoise is depicted with dark grey and silver colour scheme instead of its usual purple and brown.
