Coagulant
Coagulant is a recurring item in the series that, when used as a tool during battle, will trigger a terrible allergic reaction in a monster. The exact effects vary between games, but the result will always leave them languishing for several turns.

It is presumed that pouches of coagulant are made of the ground-up scales of betterflies and giant moths, but this has not been confirmed.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit
Coagulants are available for 500 gold coins in the original NES Version, and 310 gold in all subsequent versions. The powder Confuses one enemy for 6~8 turns, and is effective against metal slimes around 50% of the time. As such, it is advised for the party members not currently Mages or Sages to stock up when hunting the globs. The powder is available to buy in Mur, Persistence, Manoza, The Immigrant Town, Super Secret Faerie Village, and Damdara.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten PastEdit
Coagulant is available in the past versions of El Ciclo and Alltrades Abbey for 310 gold coins, as well as Wilted Heart in the present. It confuses one foe for 6~8 turns, and is no longer effective against metal slimes.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry SkiesEdit
Coagulant pouches now paralyze one monster for 6~8 turns when used, likely due to the introduction of the mystifying mixture item to cover the confusion ailment. It costs only 90 gold coins now, and is available in Batsureg, Upover, Wormwood Creek, and as a naturally occurring ground item outside the gate of castle Stornway. Additionally, the following monsters drop the bags as well:
- Betterfly (1/8th)
- Hell niño (1/32)
- Cumaulus (1/64)
- Dread admiral (1/64)
- Treevil (1/64)
Coagulant also plays a part in the alchemy recipes for the poison moth knife and batterfly knife.
