Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
Game | Description |
Confuses a single enemy when used as an item during battle.[1] |
Mystifying mixture makes its first appearance in the series. It has a chance to inflict confusion on a single enemy and is consumed upon use, having the same effect as the Fuddle spell. The mixture can be made two different ways in the Alchemy Pot and it can also be mixed to create a few items, as well. One can be found in a pot at Arcadia.
In the original Sony PlayStation 2 version, mystifying mixture can be sold at a high profit at 280 gold each for the first 29 sold, increasing to 840 gold each for the 30th to 49th sold, then going back to 280 gold from the 50th onward.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, mystifying mixture can be found randomly in blue treasure chests in the Maella Region, the Kingdom of Ascantha, and the Pickham Region. It can now also be dropped rarely by Killer moths. Mystifying mixture can now only be sold for 144 gold each for the first 29 sold, 96 gold each for the 30th to 49th sold, then dropping even further to only 48 gold each from the 50th onward. This is due to the Alchemy Pot now working instantly as soon as it is acquired.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
Game | Description |
A potion that sends a single enemy into a state of confusion.[2] |
Mystifying mixture has the same effect as the previous game. There are more methods to acquiring it besides alchemy, although the materials are harder to come by as none can be purchased normally from shops. When the DQVC was still available, it could be purchased during various sales for 560 gold each. It has a 15% chance of being found in Rank 6 (D) blue treasure chests, can be dropped rarely by Mudrakers, or can be received as a reward for repeating Quest #38: Muffled Admiration. It can be sold for 280 gold once again.
Mystifying mixture can be made in the Krak Pot and is used in the following alchemy recipes:
