The Medicinal herb is a healing item in the Dragon Quest series. It typically heals a low amount of hit points for a single character. It can be found in all item shops in Dragon Quest. In games with Alchemy, it is often used to manufacture more powerful healing herbs.

Nintendo DS/Mobile This healing herb restores a little of one party member's HP.


For the first time in the series, medicinal herbs restore the same amount of HP as the Heal spell. On the enemy side, Stump chumps are the first monsters in the series that can heal their fellow monsters with medicinal herbs.

Tessie will sell medicinal herbs at Torneko's shop for 12 gold coins.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

Medicinal herbs can be purchased from most item shops for 8 gold and sold for 6 gold. They restore around 35 HP per use.[1]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Medicinal herbs restore around 30~40 HP to a single character. They can be purchased for 8 gold and sold for 6 gold. Due to the first appearance of the bag in the series, it became possible to stock up to 99 medicinal herbs for ease of use. On the enemy side, they can be used by Ornery onions and Budding sorcerers to heal their fellow monsters, as well as Liddle during his boss battle.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Medicinal herbs can be purchased for 8 gold from most item shops and sold for 4 gold. Up to 50 can be held at a single time in the bag (99 in the Nintendo 3DS version). Early in the game, they are invaluable in certain sections where the characters' magic has been sealed away such as Alltrades Abbey. Medicinal herbs can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino in sets of 1 or 3.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Medicinal herbs can be purchased for 8 gold coins from most item shops and roving emporiums early in the first act and sold for 4. They restore around 30 HP to a single character. Gemma will use medicinal herbs on the Hero at Cobblestone Tor if his HP gets low. It can also be picked up from sparkly spots at Cobblestone Tor, Cobblestone, the Heliodor Sewers, and the Heliodorian Foothills. Herbs can be dropped by Slimes, Needlers, Drackies, Hammerhoods, Fright bulbs, Great sabrecubs, Stump chumps, Lips, She-slimes, Muddy hands, and Orcs.

Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon[edit]

In the Torneko series, the amount of HP restored by medicinal herbs is fixed at 25. Herbs will also restore Torneko's Hunger by 5%. They have the additional effect of increasing Torneko's max HP by 1 if he uses once when he is at full HP.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Herbs can be purchased from shops and can be found randomly on the ground while exploring Travelers' Gates. Terry will also be given one whenever he returns from exploring a gate unless his inventory is already full. They restore 30~40 HP to a single monster.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit]

Medicinal herbs will restore around 30 HP to whichever character the player is controlling. Rather than appearing as usable items, medicinal herbs appear as stage powerups that can be dropped by various monsters or found in smashed pots or barrels. Since they do not carry over between levels, they should be used as needed.

Medicinal herbs have be crafted using medicinal leaves that are dropped by various enemies. They restore around 30 HP.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Medicinal Herb appears as a skill and is known naturally by Mottle slime and Stump chump at level 1, costing 7 MP to use. It has a range of 1-2 squares away from the user, can be used on themselves, and restores some HP to the target.
