The magical skirt is a recurring piece of clothing in the Dragon Quest franchise which first appeared in Dragon Quest VI. Designed for women, it protects against magical attacks.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
The magical skirt has a defence bonus of +25 and can be equipped by any class as long as they are female and reduces magical damage by 25%. It can be purchased for 1,500 gold at Theddon and a shop on the second Treasures n' Trapdoors track and 3,000 gold at Asham by haggling. One can also be found on the fourth floor of the Pyramid, hidden behind a door locked by the Magic Key and another in a treasure chest on the third Treasures n' Trapdoors track near the Shrine of Shackles. It only appears in remake versions of the game.
Dragon Quest IV
Appearing only in the remakes, the magical skirt has a defence bonus of +45 and reduces all magical damage (save for zap) by 33.3%. It can only be worn by female characters. It can be bought at the Pioneer Town once it upgrades to a castle, at the casino for 1000 coins. In the Nintendo DS and smartphone versions, the magical skirt can also be obtained as a prize from the Medal King for turning in 25 mini medals. It can be sold for 7350 gold.
Dragon Quest VI
It can be bought for 6,700 gold in Sorceria and prior to that is found in the Seabed Shrine. It has a defense bonus of +45, reduces non-zap spells by 20, a Style bonus of +35, and can be equipped by Ashlynn and Milly.
It can also be found occasionally by fighting Wraithwands.
Dragon Quest VII
The magical skirt has a defense bonus of +45, a style bonus of +35, and reduces damage taken from non-zap spells by 20. It can be purchased for 8,700 gold at Wetlock, Providence, Hubble, and Aeolus Vale and sold for 4,350 gold. Maribel and Aishe can equip it. Magical skirts can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Dragon Quest VIII
The magical skirt has a defence bonus of +55, and reduces non-zap spells damage by 33.3%. The only method of acquisition is through the Alchemy Pot and it can be sold for 3,350 gold. It can only be worn by Jessica. In the 3DS version, Red can also equip it, and it can be used to make the Hexlet's skirt.
