The Robe of serenity is a recurring robe in the Dragon Quest series, debuting in Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen.
It is a special robe that has carried a variety of special properties throughout its appearances in the series. It provides extra protection for the wearer in battle if they are under the effects of Sleep or become Paralysed in its first three appearances in the series: IV, V, and VIII. In IX it gives the wearer resistance to being put to sleep in the first place, and in XI it offers no protection against either ailment and instead heals HP every turn.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
The Robe of serenity has a Defence bonus of +33. It can be worn by Alena, Borya, Kiryl, Torneko, Maya, and Meena. It's in a chest on the 1st basement of Imperial Pantry of Parthenia and can be sold for 4500 gold coins.
In the remakes, it can also be found in a chest in the Fungeon
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The Robe of serenity has a Defence bonus of +33. It can be worn by Bianca, Nera, Madchen (who joins with it equipped), and various monster companions. One is found in a treasure chest in the Cataract Caves and Madchen joins with another, and thus only two can be obtained in the entire game.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
The Robe of serenity has a Defence bonus of +34. It can only be worn by Jessica and Red. It can only be made in the Alchemy Pot.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
In addition to a new appearance, the Robe of serenity may now upgrade to even more potent protection when combined with the right ingredients.
