The Cruelcumber is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that made its debut in Dragon Quest IX. It is an anthropomorphic spear-wielding summer squash.
Characteristics
The Cruelcumber and their cousins are tribal looking vegetables with deranged smiles, their tongues flailing about as they fight. Interestingly, a bit of dishwater blonde hair extends from the tip of their stem, giving them a look reminiscent of the Chonmage, a traditional Japanese topknot hairstyle. Cruelcumbers have a rivalry with Orcs over who are the better spearmen.
