The Sunderbolt Blade is a recurring sword in the Dragon Quest series. When used as a tool in battle, it casts Zap on a group of enemies. In many games, it has become strongly associated with Terry.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

The Sunderbolt blade has an Attack bonus of +95 and a Style bonus of +45. It is equipped by Terry when he joins the party and it can also be equipped by the Hero, Milly, Nevan, Amos, and Goowain. It cannot be purchased or sold anywhere.

It can be reworked at the Fashion Forge for 12,000 gold, boosting its Style bonus to +65. If it is equipped with a Tempest shield when being ranked for the Best Dressed Contest, the wearer will receive an extra +35 Style bonus.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

The Sunderbolt blade has an Attack bonus of +95, a Style bonus of +45 and can be equipped by the Hero, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. The sword can be purchased from the Divine Shrine and the Sea Dragon for 24,000 gold and sold for 12,000 gold. Once again, it has a +35 style bonus if equipped with a tempest shield when being ranked for the Style contest of the Excellence Grading Organisation.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

The Sunderbolt blade has an Attack bonus of +165, increases the duration of High Tension mode by 1 second, and can only be equipped by Terry. It is received as a reward for completing Quest #17: Sunderbolts and Lightning during the postgame, where the player must defeat a Bullion and an Axesaurus using Tag Tricks.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

The Sunderbolt Blade appears as both a sword that can be equipped by any unit and an ability that can be learned by Terry through Talent Blossoming. The sword is an A-rank weapon that can be received as a reward for completing the Zap-type Equipment: Ultra stage of Elemental Equipment. It has an ATK bonus of +11, a max HP bonus of +36, and increases the wielder's Zap-type potency by 2%. It has three slots for Alchemy Effects. Some of the potential effects include increasing the wielder's Zap-type physical or breath potency further.

The ability costs 100 MP to cast and inflicts major unreflectable Zap-type spell damage proportional to his ATK to all enemies in a T-shaped area of effect in front of him. Upgrading the skill increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use.
