The Elepus (formerly known as Elefrover and Squidgore) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. As its name implies, it is an octopus crossed with an elephant.
Characteristics
Elepi are beige-colored octopi crossed with elephants, possessing large yellow eyes, a long trunk, and a pair of tusks on its face. They have 8 tentacles, 4 spikes on their heads, and their trunk and undersides are orange. In the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII, the elepus's eyes has purple glowing eyes instead of yellow. It attacks using both its long tentacles and flame breath and is also known as something of a dancer, as well.
In the Official Guide Book for the Famicom version of Dragon Quest IV, there is an illustration of an elepus performing a dance while holding a fan in one of its many tentacles.

Etymology
Elepus's original Japanese name, Elephroper, is a combination of elephant and roper, a monster from the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons. Ropers are magical beasts resembling stalagmites that are covered in long tentacles which conceal a mouth.
