The Shadow slime, known as Dark slime prior to Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, are simply black-and-white palette swaps of normal slimes first introduced in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. They were formerly known as Dark slimes but were renamed so as to not to be confused with Dark slimes in the Monsters series.
