The Briny mine is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest VII. It can be found in the Sunken Citadel in the past and Coral Cave in the past and present.

Characteristics[edit]

Bristly barnacle-covered bombs that float at the bottom of the ocean, only alerted when adventurers draw near their tiny territory. The arsenal of these underwater mines includes the ability to self-destruct at will to harm the entire party and casting blisteringly cold magic with Crackle, blasting all enemies with an eruption of ice.

In the 3DS version, briny mines and their cousins do not move around much, making them easy to avoid unless directly blocking the path of the party. However, if threatened by a much stronger enemy, briny mines can actually move very fast by rolling themselves on the ground in order to flee.
