The platinum shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series which first appeared in Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation. It is typically a mid-level shield, the strongest created by mundane means without any magical properties.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The platinum shield has a Defence bonus of +25, a Style bonus of +40, and reduces damage taken from Frizz, Sizz, Bang spells and fire breath by 10 points. It can be used by Hero, Carver, Terry, Amos, and Goowain; it is found in Somnia castle behind a door that requires the Ultimate key, and is also dropped by Annihilanterns and Octavian sentries at a 1/256 rate each.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The platinum shield has the same attributes as in the previous game. It can be equipped by Hero, Kiefer, and Aishe. The shield can be purchased from El Ciclo in the present, Wetlock, and Providence for 3,500 gold coins and sold for 1,750 gold coins. One can be found in Estard castle's treasury, which requires the Ultimate Key. If the Platinum shield is equipped along with the Platinum sword, Platinum mail, and Platinum headgear when being graded for the Best Dressed Content of the Excellence Grading Organisation, they provide an additional +30 bonus to Style.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version, the shield lost its protection against fire breath.
