Thorn whip
The thorn whip (also known as spiny whip and rosevine whip) is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise. It is a very basic whip.

Dragon Quest III
The thorn whip (called the spiny whip in the GBC version) has an attack bonus of +18. It can be equipped by the Hero, Mages, Thieves, Gadabouts, and sages. It can be purchased in shops for 320 gold in the NES version, but in remake versions of the game, it is obtained by turning in 5 mini medals to the medal collector in Aliahan.
- In the NES version, this weapon only dealt damage to a single enemy, only gaining the ability of other whips to attack a group in remakes. Warriors and Merchants were able to equip the whip, but lose the ability to do so in remake versions of the game.
Dragon Quest IV
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +14 and can be purchased for 200 gold. In remake versions of the game, it has been replaced by the divine dagger.
Dragon Quest V
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +18.

Dragon Quest VII
The thorn whip (called the rosevine whip in this game) has an attack bonus of +18 and a style bonus of +7. It can be purchased from Emberdale for 770 gold and sold for 385 gold. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe.
Dragon Quest VIII
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +14. It can be equipped by Jessica, as well as Red in the 3DS version.
Dragon Quest IX
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +11 and can be equipped by any character that can use whips.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Dragon Quest XI
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +11 and can be upgraded to a maximum of +22 using the Fun-Size Forge. It can only be equipped by Veronica and Sylvando and is carried by both of them in their inventory when they join the party. Thorn whips cannot be purchased anywhere, but can be dropped rarely by Cactiballs.
