Kacrackle

Kacrackle is a recurring ice spell in the Dragon Quest series, typically the most powerful.

Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it originally hit a single group of enemies with fierce ice damage, but starting with V, it lacerates all enemies with enormous crystals.

Localization historyEdit

In the Japanese games, Mahyado was replaced as the strongest ice spell in the Joker series of games by Mahyadedosu and eventually introduced in the main series of games starting with Dragon Quest IX. In the English versions of the games, Kacrackle was kept as the name of the strongest ice spell, while Mahyado would be translated as Kacrack in order to maintain its position as the second strongest ice spell in the game.

Kacrackle can only be learned by Mages investing 130 skill points into the Spellcraft skill tree and by Death Masters investing 180 points into their Reikan skill tree. It costs 24 MP to cast, and damage is calculated as (Magical Might - 400) x 0.71 + 362~402 for a base damage of 310~350 and maximum range of 790~830. With considerable use of spell and skill buffs, the caster's Magical Might can be raised to 1,500 and the calculation changes to the following: (Magical Might - 999) /3 + 790~830 for a true maximum of of 957~997.

When the player chooses to cast Kacrackle, they select a single monster to target. This enemy can be within a range of 15 meters, and any other enemies within a proximity of 7 meters from the target will also be damaged by the spell--greater distance within the 7 meter range does not decrease damage inflicted.
