The Brigandine is a recurring piece of clothing in the Dragon Quest series. It is lightweight armour best suited for thieves and other stealthy characters.
Characteristics[edit]
The brigandine consists of a red long-sleeved jacket reinforced with metal bands worn over chain mail. In mobile games such as Stars and Walk, the armour is also worn with the brigand's mitts.

Dragon Quest X[edit]
The Brigandine has a Defence bonus of +23, a Style bonus of +8, increases the wearer's Weight by 12, and has an equipment level of 35. It can be equipped by Warriors, Thieves, Rangers, Gladiators, Monster Masters, Demon Swordsmen, Pirates, and Armamentalists if they have invest enough points into their Fource skill. In the Offline version of the game, it can be equipped by Hussar and Duston.
The entire set consists of the brigandine, the brigand bottoms, a headband, the brigand's mitts, and boots. If all five pieces are equipped, the wearer gains a +25 bonus to Style.

Dragon Quest Walk[edit]
The Brigandine is a 3★ set of armour with a +10 bonus to Defence that increases the wearer's confusion resistance by 5%.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
The Brigandine is an A-rank piece of armour that can be purchased up to five times monthly from the Individual Tournament Medal Swap Shop for 400 medals. It has a DEF and AGL bonus of +8, increases the wearer's Hobble Res by 8%, and can only be equipped by Attack, Support, and Debuff units. The armour has three slots for Alchemy Effects.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds[edit]
The brigandine is a 3★ set of clothes that can be equipped by all characters and vocations. At level 35, it has a Physical and Magical Defence bonus of +65. It temporarily raises the wearer's Physical Defence when a skill with a stock of 2 or higher is used. The brigandine can be acquired commonly from limited Treasure Hunts.
Etymology[edit]
Brigandine is a type of body armour from the Middle Ages. It is a garment made from heavy fabric, such as canvas or leather, that is lined internally with steel plates riveted onto the fabric. Brigandine is much more flexible than armour made from large plates as the overlapping plates offer a degree of movement. It has a double meaning as the armour is said to be favoured by brigands and thieves.
The brigandine's original Japanese name, Banded chain (バンデッドチェイン, Bandeddo chein), has a double meaning as the word "banded" has a similar pronunciation to the word "bandit" (バンデット, bandetto) in Japanese. This is also the origin of the Bandit mail's name.
