The steel helmet is a recurring helmet in the Dragon Quest series introduced in Dragon Quest IX. It is the upgraded form of the iron helmet, made with the help of item crafting.

Upgrades into the gigasteel helmet when combined with two ingots of iron ore and a Hephaestus' flame, and upgrades into the thinking cap when combined with a star circlet and a sorcerer's stone.
Dragon Quest X[edit]
The steel helmet has a Defence bonus of +14, a Style bonus of +6, increases the wearer's Weight by 11, and has an equipment level of 14. It can be equipped by Warriors, Thieves, Paladins, Demon Swordsmen, Pirates, and Armamentalists if they have allocated enough points into their Fource skill. In the Offline version of the game, it can be equipped by Raguas, Hussar, and Duston.
The entire set consists of the helmet, the full plate armour, steel kneecaps, steel gauntlets, and steel sabatons. If all five pieces are equipped, the wearer gains a +20 bonus to Style and a +5 bonus to Weight.

The recipe book Smithing with Steel contains the recipe for the steel helmet. It is found in a bookshelf at the Warrior's Rest Inn in the Zwaardsrust Region.
