The Great troll is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.
These purple-skinned troll monarchs are among the strongest monsters in a Demon Lord's armies.
Characteristics[edit]
These purple, porcine powerhouses fail to bring anything new to the table, but they boast bolstered bulk compared to their predecessors and are all too happy to show it off in battle. Its position as the strongest of the trolls was eventually usurped by the Terror troll, though it also finds itself in battle with the Stouts of Mortamor's army over who's the top Troll in Troll society. They have light blue lips and tongues to set them apart from their fellow purple-skinned cousins. Their bestiary description in X states that great trolls are descendants of a royal family that existed in ancient times.

Dragon Quest X[edit]
Great trolls began appearing in Version 2.0 of the game. Once again they are able to land desperate attacks and will waste their turns licking their clubs in battle, as well as being able to perform Shove. Great trolls can be encountered at Zoma's Citadel during the limited "Challenge to the Archfiend Zoma" event.
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors[edit]
A Great troll appears as the boss of Chapter 7. In the English version, he has been named Golok the Gatekeeper in keeping with the localization's theme of naming characters after types of swords. A golok is a type of blade used in Southeast Asia.
