For the monster class in Dragon Quest VII, see Platinum king jewel (vocation).

The Platinum king jewel is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.

Introduced in Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, it is a Gem slime variant that normally acts as the single largest source of experience in the games it appears in, above even that of the Metal king slime.

Characteristics[edit]

Platinum king jewels are silver-colored versions of gem slimes. Like their golden counterparts, Platinum king jewels are shaped like gems and have tiara-esque crowns.

Like other metal monsters, Platinum king jewels have absurd defense, speed, and a notorious habit for fleeing from battles. Amongst their fellow metal monsters they typically have the highest HP, which usually means landing a Critical Hit is the only possible way to defeat one short of an obscene amount of good luck. Making matters worse is their ability to cast Dazzle to ensure that melee attackers never even get a chance to hit them, let alone defeat them.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Absent from the original release, Platinum king jewels appear as monsters in the enhanced remakes' bonus dungeon, the Fungeon alongside several other monsters from VII, a game that preceded the enhanced remakes.

This is the first game to introduce Platinum king jewels (previously known as PlatKing), being one of a few palette swaps of the Gem slime. These monsters are extremely rare, but yield more experience than any other monster in the game, including Metal king slimes. Additionally, any party member can become a Platinum king jewel with a monster heart, but the monsters themselves do not drop it.

Description The unrivalled experience of besting these hard-to-hit, Dazzle-dispensing diamonds makes them a dream come true.

They spend their days off with their metal king slime mates, gazing rapt at their reflections in their buddies' bulbous bodies.

Platinum king jewels are found in high leveled grottoes. As usual, they give the most Experience in the game, however, they're rarer and harder to kill than Metal king slimes, so the latter is usually the most farmed.
