- A ridiculously rare orb of buttercup yellow. Alchemise it! - Dragon Quest IX game description
The Yellow Orb reappears in Dragon Quest IX as a very exotic alchemy ingredient, used for some of the highest alchemy recipes. It is a rare drop from Murdaw, Mortamor, and (at certain level ranges) Nokturnus legacy bosses.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
The Yellow Orb is the second-place prize of the Masked Martial Arts tournament in Octagonia. The Hero and his party members pay little attention to this initially, as they are after the first-place prize, the Rainbough. However, several NPCs say that they would rather have the orb than the Rainbough, and Serena mentions that she thinks the orb is pretty--a possible hint as to the orb's later importance. Jade and Rab receive the orb after winning second place in the MMA tournament. Similar to Erik giving the Red Orb to the Hero when he finds out its use, when Rab and Jade learn that the Yellow Orb is one of the orbs needed to reach Yggdrasil, they give their prize to the Hero.
