Flapdragons are flying snakes known for their bright blue lips, sail extending along the spine, and the two little wings sprouting from the rear of their heads. They appear to have a viper's distinctive spade-shaped head and matching fangs, but are noted to prefer strangling their prey like the larger constrictor snakes.

Etymology
- Flapdragon is a play on the snapdragon antirrhinum plants and the curious wings growing from the monster's head.
- Coatl is short for Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god of agriculture who is described as being a feathered serpent.
Trivia
- The Flapdragon's chubby appearance and ability to fly are a homage to the tsuchinoko youkai, which is described as being a plump serpent that can jump once again while already airborne.
- The in-game description in The Dark Prince references the Flapdragon being used by Milly as part of her team serving as the final boss in the original Monsters game.
