Baramonster

From Dragon Quest Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Baramonster is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series that was first introduced in the Super Famicom remake of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. He would later be included in the bonus dungeons of the Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake as well.

Characteristics[edit]

The design of the baramonsters is merely a different colour scheme of Baramos. However, instead of using a cold color scheme, this monster is portrayed with a warm colour pallet. It wears long orange robes and a red cloak with a high collar and purple lining, as well as a necklace with purple beads and a red gemstone. They are a force to be reckoned with, just like the original, devastating opponents with the highest level of fire and explosive magic or freezing them solid with blasts of ice-cold air.

A demon with a striking resemblance to the Dragonlord of old. Some say it is another monster entirely who simply took on this form with a spell, and others that it is an ancient demon of great power. But nobody knows for sure

The line about Baramonsters bearing a resemblance to "the Dragonlord of old" is a continuation of the tendency for most of the characters in the Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake to conflate Erdrick with his descendent, the Hero of Dragon Quest.

Trivia[edit]

  • Although they are common monsters in the bonus dungeons of the remakes of Dragon Quest III, it is uncertain if they are pawns of Zoma or not. Their proximity to Cloudsgate Citadel may suggest that they are instead in the service of its human king or of Xenlon, testing heroes – much as great keepers are described as keeping the unworthy out of Heaven. However, the Japanese name "Baramosu Ebiru" ("Baramos Evil") seems to suggest otherwise. Perhaps they are evil from Baramos's perspective.
