The Batmandrill is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series since its introduction in Dragon Quest II.

It is a stronger, fire-breathing variant of the Silvapithecus.


Batmandrills are man-sized mandrills with the wings, ears, and noses of bats. In their original appearance and many modern appearances, they had peach-colored fur with dark blue faces, wings with dark red membranes, and claws. But in some games, they have gold coats, giving them their original names. They have solid red or yellow demonic eyes. These primates are fearsome enemies due to their ability to wipe entire adventuring parties out with their Kamikazee spell and can also breathe out flames or put foes to sleep with their Sweet Breath and cast Sizzle, as well. In remake versions of II, the Batmandrills gained the ability to act twice per turn and breathes out Poisonous Breath instead of its Sweet Breath. They will now only sacrifice themselves when their HP is low. Unlike their silver cousins, the formidable devils did not make a reappearance in the main series until X, like many other monsters. It's said that a Pink sanguini that lives for a 1,000 years will become a Batmandrill, according to the former's bestiary entry.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Appearing as a rarefied monster in this mainline entry from 1.3 onwards, they have regained their Sweet Breath and retain casting Kamikazee, but can now cast Kafrizzle and breath a mean Scorch, in addition to slashing enemies with their claws.

Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit]

A Batmandrill is a general of the Hair Force division of Hargon's Heroes during the Moonbrooke storyline alongside a Cosmic chimaera and an Archdemon.

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]

Batmandrills appear as a minor enemy throughout the game, being found in Brulia's various continents. Their major role in the game, however, are serving as Hargon's minions in the high-end fights against the High Priest such as the Giga-legendary and Fiend difficulty fights against Hargon and Malroth, as well as aiding the former during the Divine Challenge.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Batmandrill appears as an A-rank monster from the Demon family as part of the limited Dragon Quest II event alongside Malroth on his banner.
