The sword of ruin is a powerful sword in the Dragon Quest series. It is frequently one of the most powerful weapons in the game, if not the most powerful, yet that power comes at a price as the sword is cursed... If equipped, the wielder will occasionally become paralyzed for a turn in battle. The sword features an unusual design of bones and skulls and has an axe head at the tip of the blade.

| Game | Description |
| A wicked weapon made by a devious demon.[1] |
The sword of ruin has an attack bonus of +105 (+93 in the NES Version), the single highest bonus in the game. It can be dropped by both Giganteses and Green dragons and can be sold for 11,250 Gold Coins.
Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
In the HD-2D remake the Prince of Cannock becomes immune to the negative aspects of cursed equipment after surviving a terrible curse. He still can't remove them without a priest or Sheen, but he otherwise cannot be paralyzed by the blade, nor affected by any other cursed equipment. With an attack bonus of 135, it is not the most powerful weapon in the game anymore, however; those are Erdrick's Supreme Sword, Rubiss's sword, the Destructiball, and the Liquid Metal Sword. Still, it has a much higher chance of inflicting a critical hit.
The extremely rare falcon sword of ruin can be stolen from liquid metal slimes or dropped by Malroth. While its attack bonus is also only 135, it allows its wielder (ideally the Prince of Cannock) to attack twice.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
The sword of ruin has an attack bonus of +105 and has a 3⁄64 (4.7%) chance to inflict a critical hit at the cost of a 25% chance of being Paralyzed for one turn . Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit]
The Sword of Ruin is a post-game, one-star sword in DQB2 with +50 Attack and a curse. When equipped, it curses the player, preventing it from unequipping the sword and randomly paralyzing the player when attacking. The sword can't be equipped by NPCs. To unequip the sword and remove its curse, consume Sheen Salts.
