The golden tiara is a piece of headwear in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest V. Designed for women, it provides excellent resistance against various status ailments.
Localization history
The golden tiara in Dragon Quest IV is called the きんのかみかざり kin no kamikazari (gold hair ornament) in Japanese. This item would be replaced with おうごんのティアラ ōgon no tiara, a synonym, in Dragon Quest V and not return until the ninth game as a plain upgrade of the Silver tiara. The golden tiara term would be applied to the kin no kamizari by the localization team for the game to maintain naming continuity with the silver tiara, with ōgon no tiara being dubbed the Spellward circlet for the game.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Unlike other games in the series, the tiara is an accessory. It increases Luck by +13 and changes the wearer's personality to Princess. It only appears in remake versions of the game and can be sold for 3,750 gold coins.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
The golden tiara may be purchased in Porthtrunnel, Mintos, Femiscyra, and found in the Pharos Beacon. It has a defence bonus of +12, and reduces the accuracy confusion spells and abilities to 1/3rd.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
The golden tiara has a defence bonus of +45, and reduces the accuracy of Fuddle, Snooze, Fizzle, and Whack to 1/8th, setting the precedent for the majority of its later appearances. It can only be worn by human characters, and is found behind a locked door in king Dominicus' Dominion.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
The tiara is found in Mortamor's Dreadlair, and possesses the same parameters as before in addition to raising style by +50. It may be equipped by Milly and Ashlynn.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
The golden tiara has a defence bonus of +43, a style bonus of +50, and increases resistance against Fizzle, Fuddle, Snooze, and now Dazzle to 1/8th, losing the Whack resistance. It can only be worn by Maribel and Aishe. The golden tiara can be worn by placing first in the Wisdom Ranking of the Excellence Grading Organisation with a female character. It can be sold for 8,500 gold, but it is not recommended to do so.
- In the 3DS remake, the resistance to Whack has been restored.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
The golden tiara has a defence bonus of +43. It can be worn by Jessica Albert in all versions and by Red in the 3DS port. Reduces the accuracy of Fuddle, Fizzle, Snooze, and Whack spells to 1/8th.
