The Malevolantern is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VI. It is an animated oil lamp with the ability to summon a genie in battle.

Description

The Malevolantern is an ancient animated lamp that houses the horrific spirit of a genie, the Low djinks, which they summon into battle to further bother adventurers. With a gleaming golden hue, the malevolantern spends half it's turns grinning maliciously and the rest casting crippling magic like Sap to weaken the party's warriors, before casting the Buff boon on allies to bring up their defense.
