The Lickspittle is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IV.
It is a small brown goblin-like creature.
Characteristics[edit]
Lickspittles have the appearance of small humanoid creatures with tan skin and a tougher brown hide covering most of their torsos and the tops of their heads. Their eyes are constantly seen shut and they have huge pointy ears and long tongues sticking out of their open mouths. The Lickspittles have wiry limbs and make fast scratching attacks with their sharp claws. Despite their weak appearance, they are capable of calling upon other monsters to help them overwhelm novice adventurers.

Etymology[edit]
The Lickspittle's original English name, Troglodyte, is the name of a prehistoric race of people that supposedly lives in caves or holes. It can also be used as a derogatory term for someone who is reclusive and/or brutish.
- A Lickspittle is slang for a fawning toady or sycophantic person who debases themselves or gives empty flattery for the sake of personal gain.
