First appearance | Dragon Quest X |
The Masqueraider is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest X. It is a mechanical monster whose name is a play on the words "masquerade" and "raider".
Characteristics[edit]
Masqueraiders have the appearance of a fearsome monster, but they are actually small riders piloting a huge mechanical suit. Most of the suit is grey with a dark blue outer shell, a red "face" with sharp fangs, and yellow eyes. To complete its ferocious appearance, it wears a shaggy skirt of brown fur and has spikes on its shoulders, knees, and on top of the monster's head. It is capable of breathing out both fierce flames and blasts of ice-cold breath from the monster's mouth and in its hands, it wields a pair of large curved horns with red and blue stripes. These horns are sharp enough to shatter boulders or blocks of ice when charging.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Masqueraiders appeared from the beginning of the game. They can protect themselves with a fancy force field, build up their Tension by psyching up or with Muster Extra Strength, and can breathe out either blazing fire or a C-c-cold Breath. Starting in Version 5.5 of the game, Vicious masqueraiders can be faced in the Netherworld, as well.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
If a masqueraider is sparkling, it can be ridden after being defeated in battle. When it charges, it can break through boulders and ice blocks, as well as protecting the party from taking damage on poisonous swamp. The charge can also send smaller monsters flying.
Malicious[edit]
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]
Masqueraider appears as a B-rank monster of the Material family.
Dragon Quest Tact[edit]
Masqueraider appears as a A-rank monster of the Inorganic family. It can be faced as a boss in Chapter 7, Episode 5 in Part 3 of the main storyline and can be recruited there too. The masqueraider can participate in the Legerdeman's Battle Road as a party member.
