Yuji Horii has been awarded the auspicious Order of the Rising Sun for his contributions to Japanese culture and the arts. The award is one of the highest decorations that can be bestowed upon a civilian and Horii is the first representative of the video game industry to receive it. During his acceptance speech Horri honored the fans and development staff who helped make the series what is, saying:
"I am deeply honored and profoundly moved to have been bestowed this decoration.This award is not solely my achievement. I am profoundly grateful for the support of all players who enjoy the game, the development staff who have supported me thus far, and everyone involved in the game*"

Bandai Namco has announced a series of trading cards based on the Erdrick Trilogy, featuring three new art pieces by series illustrator Yoshiya Fujisaki, set to be released on November 17th

A Dragon Quest Carnival has been announced for Tokyo that will take place from February 1st through March 16th. The event will be held in the Nihonbashi district and is themed around Dragon Quest III, with guests encouraged to collect the six orbs in the form of stamps to receive promotional artwork featuring Ramia, the vocations, Robbin' 'Ood, and Orochi, as well as a plush based on Ramia's likeness. A pop-up shop selling goods featuring Dragon Quest monsters themed around historic Japan will also be open for the duration of the carnival, and select restaurants in the area will host a menu based on the series

    • A popular misconception states that the Japanese government has forbidden Square Enix from selling Dragon Quest titles on weekdays to prevent children playing hooky. This was the publisher's own decision after several children skipped school (and adults left work early) to purchase their copy of DQIII.
