The Cannibox is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a weaker version of the more common Mimic and as such is usually the first container-mimicking monster encountered by the player.
Characteristics
Canniboxes, like Mimics, are monster treasure chests with a pair of sharp teeth. The Cannibox most closely resembles an actual treasure chest because it is brown, unlike the off-color palettes of the Mimic and Pandora's Box.
Being a lesser variety of the Mimic, Canniboxes usually don't have access to instant-death moves but, rather, desperate attacks that can act as instant-death if the target's HP isn't sufficient enough to survive. An encounter with a Cannibox can usually be prevented by casting Peep on a chest to determine whether or not is a monster, though this may not help any if Canniboxes wander the area like normal monsters do.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2
On occasion, the respawnable treasure chests scattered around the game will be Canniboxes. They are challenging to scout. Their "evolved" form, the Mimic, replaces them for the blue "ornate" treasure chests found in the Necropolis.
