It can be purchased in shops for 320 gold in the NES version, but in remake versions of the game, it is obtained by turning in 5 mini medals to the medal collector in Aliahan.

Dragon Quest IV

The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +18. They can be bought for 350 gold. Bianca, Nera, Debora, and the Hero's daughter can equip it.

The thorn whip (called the rosevine whip in this game) has an attack bonus of +18 and a style bonus of +7. It can be purchased from Emberdale for 770 gold and sold for 385 gold. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe.

The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +14. It can be equipped by Jessica, as well as Red in the 3DS version. They can be bought for 350 gold in Peregrin Quay and Simpleton, or sold for 175 gold.

Thorn whips have an attack bonus of +8. They are described as "A prickly whip able to strike all foes at once." They can be bought in Palaish Isle for 1,120 gold.

Dragon Quest XI

The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +11 and can be upgraded to a maximum of +22 using the Fun-Size Forge. It can only be equipped by Veronica and Sylvando and is carried by both of them in their inventory when they join the party. Thorn whips cannot be purchased anywhere, but can be dropped rarely by Cactiballs.
