The Aurora blade is a recurring sword in the Dragon Quest series. When it first appeared, it was a powerful weapon that could cast Dazzle when used as tool in battle. Starting with Dragon Quest IX, it became an upgraded version of the Cautery sword in the mainline titles.

CharacteristicsEdit
The aurora blade is a Western-style longsword with an unusual blade and hilt. Its blade appears to be made out of an unusual green metal with a gold fuller in the middle decorated with alternating crescent-moon designs and red gemstones. The center of the crossguard features a circular design with another red gemstone in the center and rays all around, reminiscent of a sun, and the quillons have gems on each side, as well. The hilt is blue and has a red gemstone on the pommel. In Heroes II, the sword is mostly made out of golden metal with green gems instead of red, and a red hilt.
When the aurora blade reappeared in IX and XI, it became an upgraded version of the cautery sword instead with a purple blade. Dragon Quest XI introduced a two-handed version of the aurora blade called the brilliant blade.
AppearancesEdit
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary LineEdit
The aurora blade has an attack bonus of +70 (+65 in the NES version), can purchased in Burrowell for 16,000 gold, and sold for 12,000 gold. Originally, it could only be equipped by the Prince of Midenhall, but the Prince of Cannock can equip it as well in all remake versions of the game. It is the strongest non-cursed weapon the Prince of Cannock can equip in the game. When used as a tool in battle, it will cast Dazzle on enemies (all enemies in the NES version, only one group in all remakes).

Dragon Quest BuildersEdit
The aurora blade increases the Builder's attack by +40, and as a magical weapon it can damage the bodies of intangible monsters that the little craftsman's arms are too puny to on their own. The only ingredient is a single magic ingot, and the assembly table required is the welder's workbench.
Dragon Quest Builders 2Edit
The aurora blade increases the Builder's attack by +80. It requires the 1,000 gratitude points to unlock, and is made by mixing one Steel broadsword, one ruby, and three ingots of mythril at a wizard's workbench.

Dragon Quest SwordsEdit
This weapon increases the Hero's attack by +70, and is made by tempering the Rednusadner with 3 Lava Lump, 3 Ice Crystal, 3 Thunderball, and 1 Gold Bar. This sword also teaches the hero the Light Fantastic Master Stroke. It can be tempered into 3 different swords: a Dragovian King Sword, a Zenithian Sword, or a Sword of Kings.
Dragon Quest of the StarsEdit
This sword appears only in the Japanese version of the game. It was obtainable during a couple Emblem of Roto events. It's two skills are related to blinding the enemy, one of them being the Dazzle spell itself. It can have a max attack of +108 once maxed, and it's deals more damage to the dragon family. The sword itself debuted alongside the Kenshin Dragon Quest hero outfit.
In both Japanese and Global versions of the game, there is a recolored version of this sword called Battle God Sword. This blue-colored sword is obtainable using daily tickets (up to 5 times per player), and has the beginner-friendly Battle God Slash skill. To parallel the aurora blade's set, the rest of the Battle God outfit set is a blue recolor of the Kenshin Dragon Quest hero outfit.
Dragon Quest TactEdit
The aurora blade appears as an A-rank sword as part of the limited Dragon Quest II event that can be received as a reward for completing the Fire Shrine stage of Adventure in the DQII World at any difficulty or purchased from the event Swap Shop. It has an ATK bonus of +11, a max HP bonus of +16, and increases Sizz-type physical potency by 4%. It has three slots for Alchemy Effects. One of the potential effects is increasing the potency of Rickerd's Burning Strike.
The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's BondsEdit
The aurora blade, called Sword of Light in this game, appears as a gacha weapon. It comes with the Grand Cross for the Luminary Leader and Avan, a powerful Light-type special move.
Dragon Quest: Emblem of RotoEdit
Kira finds the aurora blade while doing this first trial at Kadal's mirage tower. The sage Kadal had obtained it sometime in the past and had forgotten he had it in his possession until Kira found it.
Kadal decided to gift it to Arus after both boys finish the trials the sage prepared for them. Kira is gifted the Falcon blade. After obtaining the aurora blade, it becomes Arus' main weapon for a good part of the story, until it breaks during Arus and Jagan's duel.
The sword's relation to Dazzle is showcased in the fight against the Hellion, with Arus tricking the foe with illusions.
