Rashaverak

From Dragon Quest Wiki

For the monster class in Dragon Quest VII, see Rashaverak (Vocation).

The name Rashaverak refers to both a species and an individual monster, both demonic dragons and the former one of Psaro's four servants who maintain the barrier surrounding Castle Nadiria. Subsequent appearances are as regular (albeit vicious) enemies in the end-stages of games.

Characteristics

Rashaverak is a powerful purple bipedal dragon with a large belly that only stalk lands that are covered in pitch black darkness. The underside of its body is light yellow while the webbing on its wings and frills on its head are orange. It has a jaw lined with sharp teeth and it has solid, evil-looking eyes. In its original appearance and the first two Monsters games, Rashaverak had grey skin with light blue undersides and webbing. They attack by swiping at foes with their long, powerful tails or by belching blistering bellows of burning fire and summon striking winds to wrack at foes, along with crushing groups with cracking ice. They frequently call in allies, such as healslimes, to help them out in battle.

Appearances

Dragon Quest IV

Rashaverak is one of Psaro's top generals and guards one of the four barriers surrounding Castle Nadiria. He is triplicated when he appears, and can summon more of his species in battle if the original ones are defeated. They attack with superheated gases, though the power of these attacks can be greatly reduced with Insulatle. His dialogue as he dies indicates that Rashaverak is loyal to Psaro, unlike many of his hellish peers.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Dragon Quest Monsters

Rashaveraks appear in the wild at the lowest floors of the Old Man's Gate, the gate of dragons. The easiest and most well-known method of breeding it is with any dragon as the pedigree and a Bad apple as the mate. Either Rashaverak or Great dragon are required for breeding Dragonlord and Orochi.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional

Rashaverak appears alongside Aamon in a boss battle, as an obvious reference to Dragon Quest IV.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light

Dragon Quest Tact

Rashaverak appears as an A-rank monster of the Dragon family as part of the limited Dragon Quest IV event. It can learn Poison Breath, Smouldering Breath, and Violent Roar naturally and its Leader Perk raises the Sizz-type potency of allies by 5%. Rashaverak will join the player in Chapter 4, Episode 1: The First Barrier and it stars in its own Battle Road. It can be fully awakened by completing the stage at any difficulty and by completing Event Quests.

Etymology

Rashaverak's original name, Andreal, is taken from Andrealphus, one of the 72 demons described in the Ars Goetia, taken from the Lesser Key of Solomon. Andrealphus is described as a great marquis with the physical appearance of a peacock who teaches humans about astronomy and geometry. He rules over 30 legions of demons and has the ability to turn any man into a bird.

Its English name, Rashaverak, is the name of a character in the science fiction novel Childhood's End, written by Arthur C. Clarke. Rashaverak is an Overlord, a species of alien from outer space who have the traditional appearance of demons from Christian folk imagery.
