Characteristics
Great sabrecubs have many of the defining characteristics of their mature alternates, such as spotted fur and and a fiery red mane running from head to back. Other than their lacking stature, the only thing missing from the cubs that the adults have are their developed, saber-like fangs.
Appearances
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
The first appearance of the great sabrecub, and also the first monster the player befriends in the game. Oddly, it is no longer a random encounter monster starting with the Nintendo DS remake, being replaced by the Jailcat, though the player still befriends a great sabrecub. This replacement may have been performed to make its acceptance into the party more convincing, as many NPCs only regard it as a 'strange cat', though a few recognize what it is and what it will eventually become.

In the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest Builders a great sabrecub can be encountered in Terra Incognita. After being saved, it can be ridden to travel faster and assist in combat. When jumping on enemies, they will always drop the Pixel material.
Dragon Quest Tact
Great sabrecub appears as a D-rank monster of the Beast family. It can be recruited from Chapters 4-7, 7-2, 12-4, and 12-7 of the main storyline, as well as the Great Sabrecat Priest stages of Majellan's Rebellion! during the limited Beast Fest event at any difficulty. It stars in its own Battle Road and it can participate in the Battle Roads of Majellan and Alphyn as a party member.
