The Hell niño is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, being Cumauluses that have broiled in tropical skies and mastered fire breath.

Characteristics

Looking like little more than a pair of fiendish eyes poking through a red cloud of molten dust and debris, these floating fiery foes fly about the field slinging Sizz spells and belching fire breath across the battlefield.

Etymology

  • English: The name "Hell niño" is a play on the climate pattern El Niño.
  • Japanese: As with Cumaulus and Freezing fog, Heat Gizmo is derived from Gaseous Lifeform Gizmo (ガス状生物ギズモ), a science-fiction story originally known as War with the Gizmos, written by American writer Murray Leinster. It was published in Japan in 1969.
