The thorn whip is a recurring whip in the Dragon Quest franchise. It is a very basic whip and is usually one of the weakest.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]
The thorn whip (called the Spiny whip in the GBC version) has an attack bonus of +18. It can be equipped by the Hero, Mages, Thieves, Gadabouts, and sages. It can be purchased in shops for 320 gold in the NES version, but in remake versions of the game, it is obtained by turning in 5 mini medals to the medal collector in Aliahan. It can also be sold for 240 gold coins.
- In the NES version, this weapon only dealt damage to a single enemy, only gaining the ability of other whips to attack a group in remakes. Warriors and Merchants were able to equip the whip, but lose the ability to do so in remake versions of the game.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +14 and can be purchased for 200 gold. In remake versions of the game, it has been replaced by the divine dagger.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +18. They can be bought for 350 gold. Bianca, Nera, Debora, and the Hero's daughter can equip it.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Thorn whips have an attack bonus of +18 and a style bonus of +7. They can be bought for 350 gold in Port Haven, Wellshire, and Somnia, or sold for 262 gold. Milly and Ashlynn can equip them.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +18 and a style bonus of +7. It can be purchased from Emberdale for 770 gold and sold for 385 gold. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
The thorn whip has an attack bonus of +14. It can be equipped by Jessica, as well as Red in the 3DS version. They can be bought for 350 gold in Peregrin Quay and Simpleton, or sold for 175 gold.
