Dragon Quest: The Adventure of DaiEdit
Dai is a young boy who dreams of becoming a Hero.
StoryEdit
Brass raises his adoptive grandchild Dai on the peaceful island of monsters, Dermline Island. Dai has always dreamt of becoming a hero, but the old lump shaman insists on raising him as a mage without much success. One day, a party of fake heroes arrives on the island, and decieves Dai, harms the friendly monsters and kidnaps Gomechan. Dai, with the help of some monster friends follows the fake heroes's ship and manages to save Gomechan. The king of the kingdom the impostors were headed to, King Romos, grants him the title of "little hero" and gives him the Crown of Champions.
Some months later, Princess Leona of Papnica, accompanied by her sage teacher Baron and the kingdom's bishop Temujin and some guards arrive to Dermline to meet the little hero and have her undergo a ritual to become a sage. Dai guides them towards the cave they need to visit, and Leona gives him the Knife of Papnica, an orichalcum weapon that has been passed down in her family. Once in the cave, Dai and Leona find an evil scorpion, which inflicts Leona with poison. It's then when Baron and Temujin reveal their complot to have Leona killed during this trip. Dai, unknowingly, unleashes the power of his dragon crest and is able to cast powerful spells he wasn't able to cast before: first Zapple to defeat the scorpion and later Kashooshle when Temujin unveils his modified killing machine and threatens to hurt Brass. Dai then cuts a hole on Temujin's armor using the Knife of Papnica and casts one last spell: Sizzle.
After saving Princess Leona, she sends Hero Avan and his apprentice Popp to Dermline. Dai soon becomes a student under Avan's guidance and learns new skills.

PersonalityEdit
Dai is a kind, brave, headstrong hero who fights for justice. He initially comes off as naïve but sometimes he's not an idiot, he has a mischief side and always had a strong sense of justice, largely because of a result that Dai was raised by monsters and he's the only human feral child on Dermline Island, lack of contact with humanity at large which leaves him only to assume to best intentions out of the people he meets with, being largely unable to deduce second intentions.
Dai's most defining trait is his courage because it is the secret weapon of the hero, never backing down and fighting for true justice, regardless of the difference in strength between himself and his foes, always trying to overcome his present obstacles, a trait that has won over many individuals to his side and help him, for he has a heart of a true hero. In both instances, although shocked at the malice he is witnessing, he is nonetheless brave enough to hold his ground and fight back being completely capable of discerning between right and wrong and fight against perceived wrongdoing like when Dai refused to run away from the battle of Flazzard even know the Blizzblaze Curse Field drain his powers but continue to fight, but making him stubborn and reckless as he almost got killed which made maam no choice but to knock him out to escape.
Being a feral child, Dai gets along impressively well with the monsters of Dermline Island, acting as a leader of the pack of sorts as the monsters follow his every directive with both sides treating each other as a genuine family, his love for his family is a weakness as see when his saw all monsters of Dermline Island are turning evil because as a result of Hadlar's influence.
RelationshipsEdit
- Brass: Dai is the adoptive grandchild of this lump shaman.
- Avan: Dai admires Avan for vanquishing Hadlar in the past. He soon becomes his student and inherits Avan's wish for world peace.
- Popp: The hero-to-be and the mage-to-be are just students of the same teacher at first, but they quickly become best friends, with a sibling dynamic.
AbilitiesEdit
Avan Style Sword Techniques
Dai possesses a natural talent for swordsmanship, already being skilled enough to defeat the Fake Heroes during their first battle. He would complete Avan's infamous Special Hard Course in only 3 days, learning the Earth Slash and Wave Slash techniques, and later master Air Slash through his own training.
- Earth Slash: A sword technique with high raw power, capable of cutting through barriers of stone and metal.
- Wave Slash: A sword technique which launches a shockwave to attack from a distance; it possesses great speed and the ability to cut through shapeless things like flames.
- Air Slash: A sword technique imbued with the Aura of Light to cut through the unseen; it is especially potent against enemies composed of Dark Aura, capable of dispelling their powers and damaging the soul directly.
- Avan Strash: A combination of the Earth, Wave and Air techniques into a single strike. Can be used as a projectile (Avan Strash Arrow) or by charging at the opponent (Avan Strash Break). Dai was able to use a version of Avan Strash even before mastering the Air technique, albeit at significantly reduced power.
- Avan Strash Cross: A self-invented combo technique which releases two Avan Strashes with precise timing (an Arrow followed by a Break) so that both impact the target at the same time, producing a dramatically stronger effect. After Giga Strash, it is considered Dai's strongest attack.
Magic spells
While Dai's adoptive father Brass was a competent Mage who contracted him with many spells, he has little natural talent for the art, initially struggling with even a basic Frizz. While his Dragon Crest is active his mana control improves to around that of an average Mage, allowing him to cast mid-tier spells like Frizzle. Dai would also undergo training to master Zapple and later Levizoom as counters to specific opponents.
- Frizz / Frizzle - Low- and mid-tier Fire element attack spells
- Whoosh / Swoosh - Low- and mid-tier Wind element attack spells
- Sizz - The most basic area-of-effect Fire spell
- Crack - The most basic Ice element attack spell
- Zapple - A Hero-exclusive spell which calls down a lighting bolt from above
- Boom - Flings a ball of light from the caster's hand which explodes on impact
- Levizoom - A refined version of the Zoom spell which can be used for fully-controlled flight
Dai can indirectly access Kazap by casting a Zapple spell into the Sword of Dai and using its sheath to amplify its effects. While never shown in the story, this could presumably be used to replicate Kafrizz, Kaswoosh, Kacrack and Kaboom as well.
Magic Sword
Dai possesses the Dragon Knight ability to channel attack spells into his weapon, even without his Dragon Crest active. He has used this to create the following additional techniques:
- Fire Earth Slash: An Earth Slash imbued with the power of Frizz.
- Zapple Strash: An Avan Strash imbued with the power of Zapple, used as a finishing move.
- Giga Break: A Dragon Knight finishing move copied from Baran, a two-handed sword charge imbued with the power of lightning; before receiving the Sword of Dai's spell-enhancing sheath, Dai's version is weakened due to using a Zapple spell in place of the intended Kazap.
- Giga Strash: A variation of Giga Break in which Dai switches to an Avan Strash motion midway through his charge, greatly increasing its cutting power.
Dragon Crest
As a halfblood Dragon Knight, in times of stress Dai manifests a glowing crest on his forehead shaped like a stylised dragon's head. In this state he combines the spirit of Humans with the monstrous strength of Dragons and the magical power of Darklings, allowing him to decapitate a Hydra with his bare hands and cast spells beyond his usual limits (such as Frizzle and initially Levizoom). In time Dai gains the ability to call upon this power at will, though initially he is vulnerable to burning through the crest's power too quickly and exhausting himself.
During his battle with the true Dragon Knight Baran, Dai's strong emotions and predominantly human blood have the unprecedented effect of causing his Human power to overflow and concentrate his Dragon and Darkling powers into a single part of his body; this shifts Dai's crest from his head to his fist and makes it far easier to control, allowing him to draw on its power of Draconic Aura to make his skin harder than steel and imbue his attacks with tremendous destructive power which disrupts healing magic.
After Baran bequeaths all his power to Dai, he becomes a unique "Super Dragon Knight" with crests on both hands. In this state his strength rises beyond even Baran's berserk Dragonoid form, and he gains access to the accumulated combat instincts of generations of Dragon Knights as well as the Crest Beam and Doruora techniques. Dai later reveals that he can boost his strength even further by recombining his crests to transform into a Dragonoid himself, though his version lacks the wings and scales of Baran's.
