Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit]
The Faerie Palace sits in the middle of a serene lake far to the west of Cannock. The palace is invisible to human sight, only revealing itself to those who play the faerie trumpet on the lake's ornate pier―the Troubadour standing right next to the pier is unable to see the palace, implying the veil is lifted only for those who use the instrument. Though humans cannot see the palace, the lake has a certain mysterious quality most cannot quite put their finger on, leading to many rumors spreading about it. One old wives' tale even says that the lake is the place nearest to heaven.
The Scions of Erdrick are told of the palace by the Over-Seer, the faerie who leads the group living in the Shrine of Rain to the west. She has been unable to telepathically contact the Dream-Whisperer for some time and has grown worried, asking the four children to retrieve the faerie trumpet from the mermaids to check in on her brethren. After a quick detour to Gaggle Rock south of Beran, the Princess of Moonbrooke plays the trumpet on the pier and exposes the palace.
The Over-Seer's suspicious were proven true as the palace is under attack by none other than Belial, the chief lieutenant of Hargon and most powerful of the Deities of Destruction. The faeries are unable to resist the fiend and his forces' onslaught, but the Scions are able to wipe out the horde and lock horns with the demon himself. He finds the battle to be a quaint amusement more than an actual threat on his life, antagonizing the Princess of Moonbrooke by revealing that he was the one who lead the attack on Moonbrooke and personally slaughtered many of her subjects. He departs from the palace after seeing her impotent fury boil over and laughing at her anguish, but not before tipping the children off to the activities of his fellow lieutenant, Mariella, who is raiding the Mermaid's Sanctuary. The Dream-Whisperer thanks the four Scions for coming to the faeries' aid, and asks they do the same for the mermaids.
After the Scions of Erdrick return from saving the mermaids, the damage done to the Faerie Palace has been restored. The Dream-Whisperer thanks the children for their efforts, and back-handedly compliments them by saying she expected at least one of them to perish. Nevertheless she informs them of what it will take to awaken the Goddess Rubiss from her slumber, and instructs them to seek out the faerie flute in Cantlin first. When the Princess of Cannock asks if this will be what's needed to awaken the Goddess, the Dream-Whisperer lectures them by saying they are not yet prepared both in strength to face Hargon nor even find entry to his citadel in Rendarak. The children brainstorm and decide to ask the friendly monster Elmoo to perform reconnaissance for entry in to Rendarak while they retrieve the faerie flute and other materials they'll need for the awakening ceremony.
Additionally, speaking to the Record-Keeper at this point will reveal that Mariella had stolen the living memories of Alefgard during an earlier raid before the faeries drove her back. She asks the Scions to retrieve the seven pieces of history on behalf of fae kind, and rewards them with a special scroll that teaches the ever-handy Multiheal spell.
The group returns to the palace after obtaining all the materials they need, as well as facing the Deity of destruction Pazuzu in the bowels of the Volcanic Grotto. The Dream-Whisperer congratulates them on their accomplishments and their bravery, then instructs them to sail to the Shrine of Rubiss in the open ocean south of Midenhall. She explains that only the dulcet tones of lorelei's harp can dispel the curtain of light protecting the shrine; the Princess of Cannock interjects and boasts that they already have the harp, but the Dream-Whisperer explains it will first need to be magically charged to full power by the Queen of the Mermaids, who intentionally weakened the harp as an extra measure to protect the slumbering Goddess.
In the post-game after Hargon is killed and the credits roll, a mysterious shaft of light begins to shine through the rear window of the Faerie Palace. The bubbling faerie standing before it wonders aloud where it might lead, and warns the Scions to be prepared for anything should they step into the light.
