Quayhorse

(Redirected from Seahorser)

The quayhorse is a recurrent monster in the Dragon Quest series that was introduced in Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. It is an anthropomorphic seahorse warrior.

CharacteristicsEdit

Quayhorses are big sinister seahorse-like monsters with orange scaly skin and a pair of gloved arms that allow them to hold pokey tridents. These monsters are seen wearing stylish armour reminiscent of the kind worn in Roman times, with the top part a bronze cuirass with gleaming golden details, and the bottom part is a white skirt that flows in the sea tides, held to the quayhorse's body by a a sleek black belt made of a particularly tough sea weed. These strange ocean defenders wield a solid bronze shield and a glorious golden ended trident, which they use to torment ocean invaders, along with being able to spew Sweet Breath as a way of subduing adventurers, leaving them open to more attacks. They're even able to exude an icy Cool Breath across a wide area, crushing enemies with cold hard damage.

A boss version of Quayhorse is fought in the boss battle against Mossferatu in the Den of the Dwarves along with a Wharfhorse. It is stronger than an ordinary Quayhorse and can be troublesome due to its ability to put the party to Sleep and heal its allies. It is recommended to take out Mossferatu's guards first before focusing on him.

EtymologyEdit

Quayhorse's Japanese name, Tatsunoko knight (たつのこナイト), is a reference to the term "tatsu-no-otoshigo" (竜の落とし子, lit. dragon's illegitimate child), often shortened to "tatsu no ko", which simply means "dragon's child" and is another term for a seahorse. Seahorses were believed to be related to dragons.
