The tough guy tattoo was added in the 1996 remake. It has an Attack bonus of +8, temporarily changes the wearer's Personality type to thug, and can be equipped by any vocation. One can be found in Portoga's treasure chamber, which requires the Thief's Key to unlock and is behind some electrified floor tiles. It can also be dropped by great keepers, as well as pandora's boxes in the Game Boy Color version.

The tough guy tattoo increases damage dealt by the wearer by 15%, but this time simply prevents the wearer's MP from automatically regenerating. The damage boost reaches a total of 29% when it has been fully upgraded and it will also grant a +5 bonus to attack, a +0.5% critical hit rate bonus, and a +3.5% bonus of landing a critical hit with a spell. The tough guy tattoo can be obtained by exchanging 3 mini medals once or dropped by moosifers.
