- For the monster class in Dragon Quest VII, see Goodybag (Vocation).
The Goodybag is one of the more notorious monsters in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a monster that looks like a tied burlap sack with treasures (a crown, a ring, string of pearls, etc.) hovering in mid-air around it.
Characteristics
The goodybag appears as a burlap sack with a cartoon face on it, tongue lolling out. This facial expression is similar to the cannibox-- perhaps mimicry monsters chuckle at their own cleverness when surprising adventurers?
Goodybags typically specialize in casting disruptive magic, such as Fizzle and Fuddle, combining with their agility and evasiveness to make them bothersome monsters to face. Being bags of treasure, they are also prone to dropping a considerable amount of gold and occasionally high price items.
Recent titles have shown goodybags to have erratic speech, indicated by random capitalization. This is illustrated especially well in Fortune Street and Rocket Slime, where parts of their text may also be colored red or blue in addition to the standard black.

The Goodybag can be found in various bags around the world and in the Den of the Dwarves in the past. It is also one of the forms that the Mega egger will become when hatched. The Goodybag has a rare chance of dropping a Goodybag Heart, allowing a party member to become a Goodybag when it is taken to the Alltrades Abbey.

The Goodybag boss accompanies Grody Gumpdrops in the Grody Grotto in Greenthumb Gardens.
The two Goodybag's physical attack will do ~10 damage. They will also use Defense to lower the party's defenses, LureDance to make one party member lose a turn, and OddDance to lower a party member's MP.
If the Hero and Ruff have Bladed Boomerangs, it makes the battle easier. They should regularly attack because their first attack will hit the Cavemon first and then the Goodybags in successive damage. Kiefer should use Psycheup/FireSlash combo. Maribel should cast Sap on the Grody Gumpdrops twice.
The player is advised to take out the Grody Gumpdrops first as its attacks are more devastating. When the Grody Gumpdrops is defeated, the Goodybags become much simpler.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Goodybags appear as rare monsters in the game, capable of appearing in all areas except Forewood Forest and the Flying Clawtress. They only appear in specific rooms, and only appear rarely at that, scampering away once they spot the player and may attempt to escape with Zoom if they are not captured or defeated quickly enough. Because of this, they can be seen as parallels to metal monsters in other titles since these monsters do no appear as enemies in the game. Because experience points are not used in Rocket Slime, goodybags will instead drop large amounts of gold (in the form of treasures) when struck and often drop lucky bags containing valuable materials when defeated.
In tank battles, the goodybag will use Zoom to infiltrate the enemy tank and return on-foot with a stolen piece of ammo. It is incredibly swift, but is prone to getting stuck if enemies repeatedly get in its way.
