Torland is the invented English name for the greater world that surrounds the Alefgard archipelago in Dragon Warrior II, created by the Enix America Corporation localization staff for the 1990 release of game. The game's world is only called Torland in the instruction manual and the name does not appear in the game itself, nor does it have any equivalent in the Japanese script where the continents and islands that surround Alefgard have no collective name.
The English manual aligns with the Japanese counterpart in that it details the Hero of the original game and Princess Gwaelin leaving Alefgard to build their own kingdom together, but erroneously implies that they established Torland as a global kingdom that includes even the Rendarak plateau.
