  • Soldiers of Moonbrooke: Though all put up a valiant effort to stop Hargon's army, they mostly are killed. Though a couple hold out. One arrives to Midenhall to warn the King and Hero before succumbing to his wounds. Another who is still in the castle ruins informs both the Prince of Midenhall and Prince of Cannock of the Ra's Mirror needed to cure the Princess.
  • The King of Midenhall (The King of Lorasia): Father of the game's lead Hero and ruler of Midenhall. He provides his son with a chest contain a Copper sword and 50 gold coins, as well as later directing him to the Prince of Cannock arriving to Leftwyne.
  • The King of Cannock (The King of Samantoria): Father of the Prince of Cannock and ruler of the Castle. He informs the Prince of Midenhall that his son took off for Wellspring of the Hero.
  • The Princess of Cannock (The Princess of Samantoria) (サマルトリアの王女): sister of the Prince of Cannock. She stays in her room in the castle and does not join the party.
  • Dragonlord's great-great-grandson (竜王のひ孫): A distant descendant of the Dragonlord. He is not an enemy, and provides the Luminaries with important information. He is angered at Hargon's rash actions.
  • Lagos (Originally Roge Fastfinger)(ラゴス): A thief who stole some important items from the village of Slewse. He is hiding somewhere in Burrowell Town.
  • Don Calico (Originally Don Mahone or Don Mohame) (ドン・モハメ): A craftsman who lives in Slewse. He is able to make Flowing dress.
  • The King of Dirkandor (Originally The King of Osterfair): Rule of Dirkandor and holder of the Moon Sigil. He is known for watching many combatants being maimed by his Striking sabrecat.
  • Rubiss (ルビス): The spirit that created Alefgard. This is the only game in which Rubiss has dialogue.

Enemies[edit]

  • Hargon (大神官ハーゴン): Hargon is the evil high priest of Malroth that attacked Moonbrooke, cursed its princess, and threatened to destroy the world. His defeat is the goal of the three Luminaries. Only after Hargon's defeat can peace return to the world. In the remake he is able to send curses after people from a great distance. The novel expands on his religious teachings.
  • Malroth (Sidoh)(シドー): The final boss. He is summoned through the death of Hargon. An evil god of destruction in the form of a dragon with six arms. Hargon is described as the final boss in reviews, but Malroth is shown in the background of the box art. As in the other games in the series, his true intentions are unclear; he may simply destroy out of instinct. In the novel it is suggested that he has some relation to the Dragonlord. In the Famicom and NES version, his HP is 255, no higher than Hargon and several other bosses; but it can cast the full recovery spell Fullheal. It is the only boss with this spell until Dragon Quest VIII. In the Super Famicom version, it no longer uses Fullheal, and instead has 1750 HP.
