Effect | Lowers the wielder's accuracy, but has a high chance of landing a critical hit when attacking. |
"Jaykers, that's got some weight to it! 'Tis finely made, to be sure, and a grand weapon, I'll grant ya. But it'd be murder to use. Only the greatest o' warriors'd get any accuracy out of it at all at all."
—Torneko, when he appraises Hela's hammer
Hela's Hammer is a recurring hammer in the Dragon Quest series. The hammer is so hefty that it has poor accuracy, but will nearly always land a critical hit when it does connect with its target, making it ideal to hunt metal slimes with. Unless noted below, the hammer reduces accuracy to 3⁄8ths (37.5%). In some games, it is a cursed piece of equipment.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
Hela's hammer has an Attack bonus of +70 and can be equipped by the Hero and Ragnar. It is a cursed weapon, requiring a benediction from a church if the player wishes to remove it. It can be found in a treasure chest at the Colossus. Rhinoceraxes have a 1⁄256 chance of dropping it, as well. The hammer can be sold for 850 gold, but it is not recommended to do so.
- In remake versions of the game, Psaro is able to equip the hammer without becoming cursed, but his accuracy will still be lowered when attacking.

Hard to aim, but this hammer really hurts when it connects.[1] |
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
Hela's hammer has an Attack bonus of +70, only hits 25% of the time, and can be equipped by Sancho, Debora, Brownie, Orc king, Hoodlum, Archdemon, Gigantes, Battle pip, and Conkerer. In this game, it is no longer a cursed weapon and can be removed normally. It can be found in a treasure chest on B4F of the Mantleplace, and can be dropped by Balhibs at a rate of 1⁄64. One can also be found randomly from the Nadiria Treasures n' Trapdoors board by searching the ground. The hammer can be sold for a mere 300 gold.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Hela's hammer has an Attack bonus of +115, a Style bonus by +33, and can be equipped by Carver, Terry, Amos, and Lizzie. It can be purchased for 15,000 gold from Greedmore Valley and sold for 11,250 gold. Stout trolls have a 1⁄128 chance of dropping them, as well.
- If the Hela's hammer and Hela's armour are both equipped when being ranked for the Best-Dressed Contest at the Château de Sass, they will provide an extra +10 to Style.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
Hela's hammer has an Attack bonus of +115, a Style bonus of +33, and can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, and Aishe. It is a cursed weapon once again in this game. It can be received as a prize from the Lucky Panel from the Casino starting from Pilgrim's Rest in the present. The hammer also has a 1⁄256 chance of being dropped by Mega moais and a 1⁄128 by Drakulords.
- In remake versions of the game, the hammer can only be received as a Lucky Panel prize from the casino at the Haven's final evolution. Whaleverns have a 1⁄256 chance of dropping it, as well. Hela's hammer can also be received as a reward by completing a custom Traveller's Tablet with a Mega moai as the boss.
