The Catholicon ring is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series that protects the wearer against a slew of status effects. It is usually made from the combination of multiple rings that protect against other status effects.

The catholicon ring has a defence boost of +15 and can be equipped by all characters. It increases resistance to Dazzle, Fuddle, Paralysis, Poison and Snooze. It can be sold for 18000 Gold. It can be equipped by all characters. The ring can only be made in the Alchemy Pot.

The recipe book Kings of the Rings contains the recipe for the ring of immunity. It can be found in a treasure chest on the lower level of the Cruel Crypt during the Disciple's Trial in the third act. If two catholicon rings +3 are equipped at once, it is possible to become completely resistant to multiple status effects.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]
The catholicon ring increases the duration of effects like Oomph and Kabuff by 50%, reaching to a total of 100% when it has been fully upgraded. It will also gain a +8 bonus to max MP when it has been fully upgraded. The ring can be obtained by exchanging 20 mini medals once or dropped rarely by King cureslimes.

Etymology[edit]
A catholicon is a supposed universal remedy that was believed to cure all diseases and ills in the era of pre-modern medicine, similar to a panacea. It is derived from the Ancient Greek katholikón, which meant "that which is universal".
